The Harry Bertoia Catalogue Raisonné is organized into four main classifications: Design, Sculpture, Sonambient, and Two-Dimensional. These groupings represent Bertoia's primary modes of artistic inquiry and creation. Design
The design classification is composed of Bertoia’s “functional” works intended for use in daily life. This category includes his early jewelry and tea sets, along with his renowned furniture designs for the Knoll company. View all »
Sculpture
The sculpture classification comprises many different three-dimensional forms, although most are made, or include some element, of metal. Bertoia utilized a great variety of metals, metal alloys, and metalworking processes over the course of several decades of sculptural production. View all »
Sonambient
Sonambient sculptures can technically be grouped with Bertoia’s other sculptures, but these works ultimately merit their own classification as they represent a unique part of his creative practice. Three-dimensional objects created to generate sonic environments, these works have aesthetic, aural, and kinetic properties. View all »
Two-Dimensional
Two-dimensional work was a consistent part of Bertoia’s practice throughout his career. Early drawings, woodcuts, and paintings ultimately gave way to a sustained investigation of the monotype, a method of printmaking that produces singular images and provided an essential way to explore line, color, and form.
