This was the second commission Bertoia realized for a United States Consulate building in Germany, also designed by Gordon Bunshaft for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Little is known about the history of this multiplane screen, which Bertoia made for the United States Consulate General Building in Bremen. Two years later it was exhibited in the American Pavilion at the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels, Belgium. The Bremen Consulate closed, and the whereabouts this sculpture are unknown.
